Upgrade & Save with Rebates

Rebates on this page are provided by RCEA’s partnership with the Northern Regional Energy Network.

Upgrade your home with energy-efficient appliances and get a return on your investment with these money-saving rebates! Rebates listed below are available to all customers with an electric account with Redwood Coast Energy Authority (RCEA) and/or Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) residing in Humboldt County.

Available Rebates

Rebate offerings and amounts change frequently. Check the current rebate listings in the table below before buying a new appliance to make sure it is eligible and that the rebate is still available. Applicant is responsible for complying with all eligibility requirements listed in Step One of the Rebate Application Instructions below.

Heat Pump Rebates

Rebate amounts shown on this page are awarded for each ton of cooling capacity as listed for your model on the AHRI Directory of Certified Product Performance. Please note that the exact tonnage from AHRI will be used and rounded to two decimal places. Every 12,000 Btu/hr of cooling capacity equals 1 ton. The Installation Date for your project will be your Building Permit Closure Date.

Example:
The tons for a 34,500 Btu/hr system would be calculated as:
34,500 Btu/hr ÷12,000 Btu/hr = 2.875 tons and rounded to 2.88 tons.

The rebate for a 2.88-ton system would be multiplied by the per ton rebate. Example:
2.88 x $300 = $864 (based on row 1).

All heat pump installations must have closed installation permits to be eligible for rebates. Applications require submission of the Permit Number, Permit Open Date, and Permit Closure Date (Installation Date).

Equipment must meet all requirements listed in the table above. Your application must be received within 90 days of the equipment installation date. All heat pump installations must have closed installation permits to be eligible for rebates. Applications require submission of the Permit Number, Permit Open Date, and Permit Closure Date (Installation Date). To apply for rebates that list the Replaced Unit Fuel Type of “Natural Gas”, you must have an active natural gas account with Pacific Gas & Electric Company and be replacing existing natural gas equipment.

Installations in new construction or home additions that add >30% square footage to the home are NOT eligible for rebates. Installations in buildings with commercial electric accounts are NOT eligible for rebates.

Existing equipment must be replaced and disposed of when listed as a requirement. Used or rebuilt/refurbished equipment is NOT eligible for rebates. Equipment must be fully installed and operational with a closed building permit before you apply for rebates.

Step Two

Submit a Complete Application Package

Applications must be submitted within 90 days of when your equipment is installed and working properly and after your building permit is closed. To complete an application, you will need your Electric Service Agreement ID and Account Name from your PG&E bill, information from your invoice or receipt, and the serial number on your equipment. You will need to upload a copy of your invoice or receipt. Applications are submitted online using the Heat Pump Rebate Application. Expand the section below for complete application instructions.

Completing an Application Package

An application package must be completed after new equipment is installed and fully operational. RCEA defines the installation date as the permit closure date. A complete application package includes the following:

  1. A complete Heat Pump Rebate Application, submitted online.
    • You will need to enter your building permit number, permit open date, and permit closed date on your application.
    • If you need assistance with your application, please contact RCEA at rebates@redwoodenergy.org or 707-269-1700.
  2. A photo or scanned image of your receipt/invoice showing the following information about the installed equipment:
    • Manufacturer
    • Model number
    • Number of units
    • Installation date
    • Vendor or contractor
    • Total installation cost
      • If your receipt/invoice does not include all the information listed above, further documentation is required. If your receipt/invoice does not include all the information listed above, further documentation is required. Please contact your local NREN representative listed above.
  3. ONLY if you are replacing natural gas equipment, the following is also required as part of a complete application package:
    • Information about your home:
      • Year home was built
      • Approximate square footage of home
    • Gas Service Agreement ID (from your PG&E bill)

Submitting an Application Package

To receive a rebate, a complete application package must be submitted to NREN within 90 days of equipment installation. NREN defines the installation date as the permit closure date.

Applications and documentation uploads may be completed online using the Heat Pump Rebate Application (see button below).

Step Three

Receive Your Rebate

After submitting your application package, you will:

  • receive email confirmation within three (3) business days of submission that your application package was received.

Installations in new construction or home additions that add >30% square footage to the home are NOT eligible for rebates. Installations in buildings with commercial electric accounts are NOT eligible for rebates.

For Heat Pump Rebates, the number of units is the rated tons (of cooling capacity) for your model number as it is listed on the AHRI Directory. Please note that the rated cooling capacity is often smaller than the listed cooling capacity from the manufacturer. Every 12,000 Btu/hr of cooling capacity equals 1 ton. The rated tons (of cooling capacity) are rounded to two decimal places. The per ton Rebate Amount listed is multiplied by the rated tons (of cooling capacity) to determine the rebate award. You may contact RCEA to learn the precise number of units and associated rebate award for your installed model. The Installation Date for heat pump rebates is your Permit Closure Date.

Installations in newly constructed buildings are NOT eligible for NREN rebates. Installations in home additions/alterations that add >30% square footage to the home are NOT eligible for NREN rebates. Please see the California Energy-Smart Homes Program for information on rebates that are available for new construction and additions/alterations.

To be eligible for rebates that require a Replaced Unit Fuel of “Natural Gas”, you must have an active natural gas account with Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), and you must be replacing existing equipment that used natural gas. In the NREN territory, natural gas is only provided through gas pipeline infrastructure owned and operated by PG&E. Propane, kerosene, fuel oil, or any other fuel not provided by PG&E is not considered natural gas.

Installations of water heaters and heat pumps require permitting through your local jurisdiction. Heat pump installations must provide Permit Number, Permit Open Date, and Permit Closure Date (Installation Date) to be eligible for rebates.

Rebate applications must be submitted within 90 days of installation of your new appliance or sooner if a deadline is listed in the Criteria for the rebate.
