Community Choice Aggregation (CCA), also known as Community Choice Energy (CCE), is an alternative model for how electricity is sourced, delivered, and priced. As of 2024, there are 25 operational CCE programs in California. These programs collectively serve more than 14 million customers.

With CCE, cities and counties can decide for themselves where to buy their power, which allows us to prioritize renewable energy sources and set rates that work for our community. Unlike PG&E, which is an investor-owned utility, RCEA is a public agency that works for the community, not shareholders. Learn more about our governance.

In 2017, RCEA became a Community Choice Energy (CCE) provider, taking on the responsibility of purchasing and delivering cleaner, renewable electricity for our customers, directly empowering local control over energy choices.

As a Community Choice Energy Provider:

RCEA purchases power from clean sources like wind and solar, and PG&E continues to deliver it to your home or business through its infrastructure.

Customers are automatically enrolled in RCEA’s program, though you can choose to opt out at any time.

Our programs also include support for energy efficiency, electric vehicles, and local renewable energy projects.

How it Works
