Demand Response

Demand Response programs allow customers to actively participate in managing energy usage, and save or earn money, while also supporting the overall grid reliability.

By enrolling in a Demand Response program, customers can make a difference by adjusting electricity consumption during high-demand periods when the grid is stressed.

Benefits of Demand Response:

  • Financial Savings: Participating in Demand Response programs can lead to savings on your energy bills. By reducing your energy usage when called upon by the demand response management system, you can help stabilize the grid and potentially earn incentives or credits.
  • Environmental Impact: When the grid is stressed, the California Independent System Operator that controls the grid must import power from less clean sources leading to higher emissions. By reducing energy use when called upon by the demand response management system, you are helping to reduce energy-related emissions.
  • Grid Reliability: Demand Response programs play a crucial role in maintaining a stable and reliable electricity grid. By responding to real-time demand response calls by reducing load, we can relieve grid stress and minimize the risk of blackouts or disruptions.
  • Community Support: By participating in Demand Response, you join a community of individuals actively working towards a more efficient and resilient energy system. Your involvement contributes to the overall well-being of our community by ensuring a reliable supply of electricity for everyone.

Customers can find the program that best aligns with their specific needs, capabilities, and goals by referring to RCEA’s list of Qualified Demand Response Providers below. All three providers are registered with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) as Demand Response Providers.
