Fluorescent Take-It-Back Program

Recycle your old fluorescent lamps for free at convenient locations throughout Humboldt County.

Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) and linear Fluorescent tubes are a quick and easy way to save energy in your home.  By saving energy you will save money while you reduce your carbon footprint.  But remember-- all fluorescent lamps contain trace amounts of mercury and are classified as Universal Waste. The Humboldt County Take-It-Back Pilot Program is a collaboration of Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC), Humboldt Waste Management Authority (HWMA), Redwood Coast Energy Authority (RCEA), and local businesses.  Its goal is to combine the message of energy efficiency and environmental protection by advocating the use of CFLs and providing free, local, and convenient locations for households to take spent fluorescent lamps.  A Mail-It-Back pilot program will also be available to residents in designated communities.  Funding is provided by a grant from PG&E.
