Arcata GHG Reduction Plan

The first Community Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan in Humboldt County.

Arcata is a member of ICLEI's Cities for Climate Protection, an international movement of over 600 local governments, including major cities like Los Angeles and Mexico City, which are working together to improve environmental conditions.

As part of this effort, the City of Arcata adopted a Community Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan in 2006, which provides direction in how to reduce the city's greenhouse gas emissions.  This plan was developed by Arcata's Energy Committee, and focuses on energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable transportation, waste and consumption reduction, and the sequestration of carbon dioxide by trees and other vegetation. The plan breaks down what steps the city and individuals can take to implement these measures.
