The Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 -- California’s landmark legislation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Assembly Bill 32 (AB32), the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 proposes that California reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020, and 80% of 1990 levels by 2050. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has been given the responsibility of devising a plan to achieve this bill's objective of lowered greenhouse gas emissions. The proposed reduction will be accomplished through an enforced statewide cap on greenhouse gas emissions that will be phased in at the beginning of 2012. The named greenhouse gases in this bill include: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluororcarbons, perfluorocarbons, and sulfur hexafluoride.

This landmark climate protection legislation is the most comprehensive in the nation, and will require participation from all sectors of California society.  RCEA is assisting its member agencies to do their part by helping to develop community greenhouse gas inventories and reduction plans.

Energy Tip:

Look for the ENERGY STAR label when buying a new refrigerator. Select a new refrigerator that is the right size for your household. Top freezer models are more energy efficient than side-by-side models. Features like ice makers and water dispensers, while convenient, will increase energy use.
